Where Were Colorado’s Democrat Legislators in Calling for His Resignation?
DENVER (May 30, 2014) – Today, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki resigned his position after it was revealed that there were massive systemic issues in delivery of health care throughout the VA medical system, which resulted in a backlog of wait times as well as, potentially, the deaths of as many as 40 veterans.
While several of Colorado’s legislators had called for his resignation, starting with U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman on May 5, the following Democratic legislators did not call for the embattled Secretary to step down:
• U.S. Rep. Diana Degette
• U.S. Rep. Jared Polis
• U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter
• U.S. Senator Michael Bennet
“Colorado is home to many veterans, who deserved far better than the care they received (or didn’t receive) under the Obama administration’s watch,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado. “Where were these four legislators when veterans needed them? Why wouldn’t they demand accountability for those who put their lives on the line so that we didn’t have to?”
