Hickenlooper doubles down on uncited statistic
DENVER (March 14, 2014) — Today, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper sent out a campaign email to supporters with the subject “Brought to you by the number 4” in which he once again claimed the uncited statistic:
“For the fourth year in a row, our economy is on the uptick. The Colorado economy is now ranked fourth in the country – up from 40th just a few years ago!”
Governor Hicknelooper used the same statistic in his “State of the State” speech, many different outlets have tried to find some verification of the claim, and have thus far been met with silence from the Governor’s office. Although Colorado was ranked fourth in job growth in the nation in 2012, we have subsequently dropped to tenth after a year in which Governor Hickenlooper rubber stamped the far-left agenda from the Democratically-controlled legislature.
“The fact the Governor is clearly crowing about this number at every opportunity, yet has not told a single constituent or news outlet where the number comes from should raise the eyebrows of Coloradans,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado. “It was a cornerstone of his ‘State of the State’ speech and it’s becoming clear it will be a central talking point in his campaign, so we deserve to know where it comes from.”
