“Unmitigated failure”: Obamacare enrollment numbers underscore systemic problems
DENVER (November 13, 2013)—Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released Obamacare enrollee numbers totaling just over 106,000 people, only 27,000 of whom did so through the exchange websites. Those numbers pale in comparison to the 4.8 million people who have been kicked off the plans they were promised they could keep or have received cancellation letters.
Compass Colorado released the following statement:
“The number of people who were able to find coverage under the Obamacare scheme is disappointingly low, but when taken in the context of the massive sea of people who are now forced to find new plans, it’s time to call Obamacare what it is: an unmitigated failure,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado.
“In Colorado, Senator Mark Udall marketed Obamacare by telling us that if we liked our plans we could keep them, that has not been the case,” added Maher. “Now he’s panicking and trying to introduce a bill to allow people to keep their plans for up to two years, but if he were actually looking out for the best interest of Coloradans he would be introducing a bill to repeal Obamacare altogether.”
The full HHS report can be read here.
