Compass Colorado calls on Governor Hickenlooper to stop looking for ways to take taxpayer’s money
DENVER (May 14, 2015) – Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper told Colorado Public Radio earlier this week that although his proposal to take money out of the refund checks of Colorado taxpayers was rejected by the legislature, he will still try to figure out how to allow the state to keep a large chunk of the money constitutionally due back to the citizens of Colorado.
The latest iteration of Hicknlooper’s shell game to take the taxpayer’s money is based on a scheme to reclassify fees paid by hospitals, so as to not count against the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR) state limit that triggers a constitutional refund to the taxpayers. Hickenlooper’s proposal would take money from the families of Colorado’s taxpayers to line the coffers of the state government.
“Compass Colorado calls on the Governor to allow the taxpayers to keep their full refunds,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado. “Reclassifying the dollars constitutionally due to the taxpayers in an accounting slight of hand that takes money stright from Colorado families.”
