DENVER (February 26, 2015) – Today the Colorado House Committee on Insurance, Health and Environment will consider a bill by Rep. Jon Keyser, (R-Morrison) to require legislative oversight for employee bonuses at Connect for Health Colorado, Colorado’s Obamacare exchange. Last year, Connect for Health Colorado’s CEO Patty Fontneau received a $14,000 bonus, despite a botched website roll out, glitches galore, and the exchange not hitting enrollment goals.
“The fact that the CEO of the Obamacare exchange received a bonus equal to over three months of an average Coloradan’s salary is so stratospherically out of control there aren’t sufficient words to express it,” said Kelly Maher, executive director of Compass Colorado. “A common sense, bipartisan solution is to require some oversight to this kind of meritless largesse paid for with the taxpayer’s money. If the House Committee on Insurance, Health and Environment attempts to take the teeth out of that oversight today, it will have done a grave disservice to the people of Colorado.”
Compass Colorado strongly urges the House Committee to keep the bonus oversight bill in place as written and passed with a bipartisan vote in the Senate. Any attempt to amend or kill this common sense legislation would be an affront to the hundreds of thousands of Coloradans who are struggling with Obamacare cancellations and rising healthcare costs due to Obamacare.
