Report Shows Corzine Mislead Congressional Investigators
(GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO) – Senator Mark Udall (D-CO) still has not said if he returned tainted campaign donations from Jon Corzine, the former New Jersey Governor and embattled former CEO of MF Global. Last week, the House Financial Services Committee released a memo detailing Jon Corzine’s direct involvement in transferring $200 million from a customer account days before the firm went bankrupt. $1.6 billion of customer money is missing and Corzine was forced to resign as a result of his actions.
“When will Mark Udall follow the lead of his Washington allies and return Corzine’s corrupt donations?” said Tyler Q. Houlton, president of Compass Colorado. “Clearly, Mark Udall is putting the interests of New York City bankers over the needs of his Colorado constituents.”
According to the memo, an employee email states that Jon Corzine gave “direct instructions” to transfer the money. The email contradicts Corzine’s testimony before the House Financial Services Committee.
President Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee stealthily returned $70,000 in donations from the Corzines two days before Christmas. The House Financial Services Committee is holding another hearing on Wednesday to further probe the collapse of MF Global. Jon Corzine donated $4,600 to Udall’s senate campaign.
