(GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO) –Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-Golden) is in the process of seeking taxpayer-funded government subsidies for green energy pet projects while gas prices continue to skyrocket. Perlmutter, who is a staunch defender of earmarks, is seeking at least $2.79 billion in back door earmarks for special interest renewable energy projects.
“While Coloradans continue to suffer from high unemployment and skyrocketing gas prices, Ed Perlmutter is wasting their hard earned dollars on pet projects,” said Tyler Q. Houlton, president of Compass Colorado. “Ed Perlmutter should stop his back door earmark crusade immediately.”
“For the Joint Polar Satellite System, he [Perlmutter] asked for $916.3 million. For biomass energy, he requested $270 million, for solar, $310 million and for wind energy $95 million. For the Orion’s crew vehicle, he urged the subcommittee to maintain the funding level at $1.2 billion.” (Allison Sherry, Perlmutter seeks federal funds for Colorado projects, Denver Post, 3/21/12)
The average price for a gallon of gas in Colorado is over $3.60. Perlmutter also opposed the Keystone XL pipeline that would have created tens of thousands of American jobs and helped alleviate America’s dependence on foreign oil.
